Front House Manager with Sommelier Responsibilities

New Seasonal Italian Restaurant seeks a Front of House Manager with Sommelier responsibilities.

 

Desired Personality: We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic, passionate, and professional. The individual will want exposure to all aspects of restaurant management and is interested in gaining more leadership experience as part of their skill set. Moreover, the ideal candidate will be a dedicated wine enthusiast and budding wine-professional. A secure knowledge of the wine-growing regions and appellations in Italy and beyond is absolutely a requirement including previous work experience with wine sales in a restaurant setting is favorable. Also, being able to inspire others, respectfully delegate responsibility, work closely with direct supervisors and a professional kitchen and "run" a dinner, lunch or brunch service is necessary. Additionally, a commitment to authentic, real customer service should be a defining characteristic of the candidate.

 

Key Responsibility: The Manager sets the standard for service expectations by managing every aspect of the guest's experience from start to finish, and personally intervenes to correct below-standard service issues and positively coaches and counsels staff to achieve the highest quality of service in all areas of the restaurant. The Manager demonstrates and extends same ‘guest first’ attitude with staff, demonstrating skill and care when selecting, scheduling, training, developing, mentoring, managing and leading the team.

 

Position Overview: As manager you will be responsible for a staff of 10, promoting the goals of the company and its wine program, scheduling and payroll, running the special events department and weekly strategy meetings with the Owner. The Restaurant Manager is responsible for all front-of-the-house (FOH) functions on an opening, mid- or closing shift, including guest relations, supervision of all FOH staff and staffing levels, proper restaurant ambience, housekeeping, and set-up, food & beverage quality, safety and pace. The Manager is responsible for staffing, scheduling, financial goals and staff development of all FOH employees. The Manager ensures that the shift is run in a smooth manner and attends to any unexpected problems or emergencies that may arise.

  • Position Available: include prep cook, line cook/garde manger, dishwasher

  • Location: This position is located in Oyster Bay, NY close to the Oyster Bay LIRR station.

  • Start Date: ASAP

  • Requirements:

    Minimum 2 to 5 years in fine dining restaurants

    Extensive wine and beverage knowledge required.

    Must possess strong leadership skills

    Strong communication skills required

    Must be dependable, reliable, on-time and motivated.

    Must be able to work ten hour-plus shifts, with extensive standing/walking.

    May lift materials and/or product up to 50 pounds or more.

  • Benefits: This position offers benefits and an average 55 hour work week with 2 days off consecutively.
