I am originally from Trumbull, CT, but I attend school in my beloved Boston, MA at Suffolk University. I am a Print Journalism major at Suffolk, as I have such a deep passion for writing! Forever a true city girl at heart, I always knew that I wanted to go to college in the city. Suffolk and Boston are the absolute perfect choice and fit for me. For my entire sophomore year, I have interned at and became a published contributing writer in Boston lifestyle magazine, Scene Magazine. It is located in Boston’s North End, the city’s absolutely amazing and delicious Italian district! I loved everything about my internship at Scene, it was truly an awesome experience.
This past summer I commuted into NYC two full days a week to intern for Joonbug.com, where I was the Editor of the company’s First Course Blog. I’ll have you also know I am such a foodie, sharing a deep love for any and every type of cuisine! I love trying new things, and really enjoyed my time at Joonbug – I had the opportunity to check out the city’s most divine restaurants and write reviews on them for the Joonbug site. I was responsible to cover six articles a week in addition to editing my contributing writer’s pieces. When I am back in Boston for the spring semester, I am continuing my internship at Joonbug, building up the Boston culinary market. I am so excited!
In addition, another one of my passions is fashion. I am a Style Guru for Collegefashionista.com, where I spot out, photograph and feature trendy Fashionistas and their outfits on the street and write weekly style advice posts. (http://www.collegefashionista.com/alexamellardo)
Florence has been such an amazing, unreal experience for me; I have enjoyed absolutely every second of it – from the awesome Italian culture, to delectable food, amazing shopping and living in the most spectacular cities in the world. I am so lucky to have the opportunity to study abroad. Writing for Santa Cristina Winery this semester was an added bonus! I loved writing weekly introductions for the featured Apicius recipes and getting to know the history behind each dish…it is truly fascinating. Massimo is great and I thank him so much for presenting me with this writing opportunity.
